Rising 50s – Early Engagement for Bowel Cancer Screening
In partnership with North East London ICB and the Bowel Cancer Screening Hub and ECLIPSE (Equality of Care-Led Insights for Patient Safety & Engagement)
Practice Pro-Forma
We are pleased to invite your practice to join the new Rising 50s Patient Engagement Programme, which supports earlier awareness and uptake of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
This initiative targets individuals turning 50–52 years old who will shortly become eligible for screening and provides them with timely education and engagement to increase participation and improve health outcomes.
Programme Overview
Objective:
To increase early uptake of bowel cancer screening in patients aged 50–52 across North East London, particularly among underserved and high-deprivation groups, without adding to GP practice workload.
Key Components of the Programme
Identification of Eligible Patients:
The Eclipse platform will identify eligible patients approaching their 50th, 51st, or 52nd birthdays in line with NHS screening criteria.
Prioritisation:
Cohorts may be prioritised by region, deprivation level, or low historic uptake to maximise impact.
Digital Patient Engagement:
Patients will receive SMS messages via the secure Eclipse PEGASUS system, linking to a personalised landing page explaining the screening process, the benefits of early detection, and what to expect.
Secure Questionnaire:
Patients will access a brief questionnaire to confirm participation, check their address, and highlight any accessibility needs or preferences.
Bowel Cancer Screening Hub Integration:
Consent-confirmed patients without a current kit will be securely referred to the Bowel Cancer Screening Hub, which will arrange delivery of the FIT test kit through standard processes.
Support for Non-Responders:
Those who do not engage digitally may be contacted by Eclipse’s Virtual Support Team for personalised telephone support (if practice permission is given).
